Elle Azhdari creates truly unbelievable edible art - elevating patisserie to sculpture and a multi-sensory experience. Her practice explores the liminal space between the edible and the aesthetic, challenging conventional notions of art consumption. Her installations are meticulously crafted, ephemeral sculptures or cohesive series that explore colour, texture, shape, and form. Iranian born, Swedish raised, Art school educated in London, Elle takes abstract inspirations from popular and digital culture, contemporary and historical art, Persian culture, semiotics and esotericism.
Her method is intimate and sensory, relying on visual intricacy and delicate flavour composition, but the impact on viewing is one of awe. These creations are designed to induce wonder, connecting to feelings of expansiveness, transcendence, and connection, underscoring the therapeutic and humanistic dimensions of her practice. Elle explores the psychological impact of engaging multiple senses—sight, taste, smell, touch, and the momentary suspension of disbelief that such creations can be consumed.
Pivoting from a successful Creative Direction and Design career in London and New York, Elle retrained in patisserie in Sweden in 2020. She went on to perfect her skills under award winning Swedish pastry chef Daniel Roos, and at the 3-star Michelin restaurant Frantzén in Stockholm, Sweden. Elle operates from her studio in Stockholm, Sweden, and is available for both local and international commissions. Her bespoke edible sculptures are one-of-a-kind, never duplicated. Design and flavour combinations are always a surprise, whilst allergies are considered.
